“A compelling anthem that encapsulates the resilience and determination embedded in the human spirit.” — Kathleen Fee’s “Glitter Gold”
Unique blend of storytelling and musicality, influenced by Kim Richey, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Can you tell us about how your musical journey started at age 4?
Becoming a singer feels like the most natural progression of who I’ve always been. I can remember my mom driving me to school and singing along to the radio, even before music has been woven into the fabric of my existence since my earliest memories. Growing up with Irish parents, I was immersed in a world of music, stories, and traditions that shaped who I am as a person and as a musician. From a young age, the sounds of music, song, and storytelling surrounded me, intertwining with the melodies on the radio as I rode to school with my mom. Memorizing song lyrics and melodies came effortlessly to me, fueling my passion for music and defining my identity in profound ways.
Your diverse talents extend to acting, modeling, and even championship Irish step dancing on national and international stages. Most memorable stage to dance on to date and why?
Performing Irish step dancing at Radio City Music Hall stands out as my most memorable experience. My dancing school was asked to be part of a show, and I can remember feeling the magic of the theater and being on that iconic stage. I am very proud of my heritage and the rich traditions that have inspired me. I have made many of my lifelong friends through my experience in Irish step dancing.
Frontwoman of acclaimed band New York City Irish Band Celtic Cross. Favorite Celtic Cross song to perform live?
Singing the original song I wrote, “Who I Am,” holds a special place in my heart as my favorite to perform live. This song is a deeply personal expression of my journey and identity. Every time I sing “Who I Am,” I am reminded of the experiences, emotions, and stories that inspired the lyrics.
“Glitter Gold,” co-written with Rebecca Lynn Howard, Josh Matheny, and Elisha Hoffman, is the title track from your upcoming solo EP. “Glitter Gold’ is a deeply personal song about the journey of facing inner battles and living up to societal expectations. This song captures the longing to stand on the side of the road where the rain is made of ‘Glitter Gold,’ symbolizing the pursuit of joy and fulfillment. I think so many of us can really relate to the message in the song.” What motivated you to share your personal story?
I truly believe in the transformative power of music. When lyrics resonate with our experiences, they remind us that we are not alone. The lyrics talk about dealing with social standards and struggling with the pressures of social expectations. I hope “Glitter Gold” inspires and encourages others to embrace their true selves and feel empowered knowing that others are also facing similar struggles.
Singing the National Anthem at the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Arizona Cardinals game. Some have said Whitney Houston’s rendition at Super Bowl XXV in Tampa, FL is one of the very best. Who inspired you to first perform the Anthem?
Without a doubt, Whitney Houston’s rendition of the National Anthem stands out as my favorite performance of the song. Whitney’s voice was unmatched in clarity and effortlessness. When I was rehearsing to sing at the Pittsburgh Steelers/Arizona Cardinals game, I wanted my version to be unique to me. I didn’t want it to sound like I was trying to copy someone else. I also wanted my rendition of the National Anthem to pay homage and respect to the original version.
Dividing your time between Montauk, NY and Nashville, TN. Do you have any plans for future collaborations with other artists or musicians?
I am always working on song ideas and lyrics, and I love to collaborate with fellow songwriters and musicians both in New York and Nashville. I will definitely be working with some friends and artists over the summer.
