“Naked and Lazy” Alisha Pace

After writing “Naked and Lazy” in July of 2018 with Levi Burwell, Alisha Pace sent the work tape to her parents for some input. “There’s a part in the song where we talked about the two song characters making a cake together — obviously naked and lazy,” she explains, “Every time I sing it, I think about my mom’s response… ‘Well, the words are good Alisha-but seriously, making a cake together naked? There has GOT to be some health code violations!’ I just rolled. Such a good mom — HEALTH FIRST!”

Love your mom’s input after you sent her a work tape, what did dad think? Was this your first co-write with Levi?

Ha! Dad chose to stay clear of that conversation. If I try to talk to him about boys at all, he says, “Alishaaaa, why do you hate me?” lol. Levi and I had written before. He’s one of my fav co-writers in Nashville.

Born and raised in Sugar Land, Texas, Pace is all about embracing the “sweet” things in life. Her music brings the sounds of country and pop together to tell stories of love, life, and not letting anything get ya down while you’re discovering who you are. After graduating from Baylor University in 2016 with a degree in Professional Sales, she moved to Music City and has had a variety of unique job roles while also pursuing her music career; including being a karaoke host, selling dumpsters for Waste Management, and getting people out of timeshares. Her experiences in Nashville and the people she’s met have given her the stories necessary to put pen to paper and allow her songs to come to life. “Naked and Lazy” is the first of several singles she plans to release in 2019.

Which artist inspired you the most growing up?

Oh man…Jo Dee Messina. I’d lock myself in my room for hours, belting her lyrics as the top of my lungs, watching her music videos for the hundredth time, and pretending at age six that my “give a damn” was “busted” lol.

Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with? Dream venues?

Kelly Clarkson-outside of her insane talent, on a personality level, that lady seems like a straight up pal. I know I could learn a lot from her. As for dream venues, I guess for me, it’s a little less about the where and more about the what’s going on when I’m there. I could be anywhere, and if the crowd is visibly into having a good time with the performance and potentially even singing the lyrics with me-THAT is my dream venue.

What’s something you learned early on in your career that made you a better artist?

One of the most valuable things I learned early on in my life and my career is that if you want to make friends and fans, make them smile and enable people to realize their value.

What’s an important cause or issue you support?

Something that means a lot to me is preaching that women know their worth while in relationships. It’s something that I forget all the time and have to re-tell myself. I figure I can’t be the only one who needs a constant reminder of this, so it’s ended up being the focus point of several of my songs. I’ve had relationships in which I let people walk all over me because I was in too deep emotionally and justified things I shouldn’t have, and I’ve had other relationships in which I saw unhealthy signs and was able to tap out sooner. I guess a lot of dating comes with trial and error, but sometimes when you’re in something that’s toxic, it’s hard to see that the way you’re being treated isn’t right or normal and doesn’t deserve to be looked over. So I support women knowing the standard of their worth, saying “SO LONG” to the boys who can’t realize gold when they have it, and holding out for men that treat them like the treasures they are.

Heart on The Line” You described it as your most vulnerable — how difficult is it to put such personal feelings into lyrics?

Not too difficult…My name means honesty. I’ve never really found it too hard to be honest with myself or others. If being honest allows people to tap into the same feelings I’ve felt and experience deeper emotions, than I have no issue being vulnerable in a song. Experiencing inner feelings is so much of what music is about.

What’s a subject you’ve always wanted to write a song/sing about?

EL OH EL- I’m so weird, but graveyards. I think graveyards are so mysterious and beautiful. Like they contain the untold stories of so many people. People that had hurts and fears and love lives and pet peeves and dreams. Since I was probably 9, I’ve wanted to write a song about them.

If you could cover any song what would it be?

TOSS UP. Last Name by Carrie Underwood, Redneck Woman by Gretchen Wilson, or Gravity by Sara Bareilles.

Who is the next big female artist you’re currently obsessed with?

ABBY ANDERSON. Hands down. That girl is a hoot!!! Love her spirit and her tunes!

Verse 1

Blinds pulled down low

Hitting decline on my phone

When mama calls

You’re looking like a dream

Wearing a sea of messy sheets

Inside these walls

Pre 1

Everything on the to-do list can wait on us

Chorus

Dancing around the kitchen

Speakers up to 11

Giving no mind to the plans that we’re ditching

Stripped down like Eden

No clothes means no leaving

Today you’re the only face I wanna see

Nothin’ better than being naked and lazy

Verse 2

Find icing in the fridge

Bake a cake just for kicks

Let’s make a mess

Pick a movie we know

Seen a hundred times before

So we can kiss instead

Pre 2

Never get tired of me and you spending time

Chorus

Dancing around the kitchen

Speakers up to 11

Giving no mind to the plans that we’re ditching

Stripped down like Eden

No clothes means no leaving

Today you’re the only face I wanna see

Nothin’ better than being naked and lazy

Bridge

Monday ain’t too far away

But all those meetings and memos

And wearing clothes can wait

Cause we’re

Chorus

Dancing around the kitchen

Speakers up to 11

Giving no mind to the plans that we’re ditching

Stripped down like Eden

No clothes means no leaving

Today you’re the only face I wanna see

Nothin’ better than being naked and lazy
