Q & A with Country Sway’s Jessica Northey:
Can you share how you started working with country music artists?
After I left radio sales and started my digital agency it happened organically through Twitter relationships with music industry professionals and musicians.
What role does social media play in an artist’s career?
Social Media is perfect for anyone who wants to control their brand message or create a network of support and be heard by targeted individuals.
#SundaySway. Will Essex County be offering suggestions for artists during their next show?
Judges. How were they chosen?
I asked industry friends who I admire, trust, and value their points of view. Everyone was happy to help and they’ve all been very supportive!
Song choice will play a key role. Can an artist enter with a cover song?
They can but they have to abide by Facebook/IG/Twitter TOS in regards to copyright for the material. The finalists will have to have at least 2 original songs.
Any suggestions for quarantined artists on what equipment to use to record their video?
We just want videos and most people are shooting stuff their phones or computers.
What is the best way for artists to ask questions during the contest entry period?
Fill out this form at CountrySway.com.
Judging will include fan interaction and reaction. Will this be based on the live acoustic shows?
Will you follow the winner through the steps to release their song/s?
Hope so, if they’ll have me! :D
How long (approximately) will it take for the process to be completed — from winning the contest to releasing the song/s?
I would be guessing if I gave you a timeline, with COVID 19, I am not sure how that will impact the process.
Is timeline below correct?
- Finalists announced May 10 by Essex County on #SundaySway.
- Country Sway Facebook live acoustic shows between May 10–31 to include at least two original songs.
- Winner announced June 7 by Essex County on #SundaySway.
“The idea for this talent search came after COVID19 had shut down our industry. I felt crushed for everyone, especially artists just starting out. Over the years Rob [Beckham] has always been a great supporter of my Country Music communities (#CMchat/CountrySway/CMchatlive.com.)” — Jessica Northey, Country Sway
“I always have my eyes and ears open for unique and promising new talent. The world we’re now living in has shifted the paradigm, and we are dedicated to finding new and creative ways to support the industry. Country Sway has been a great friend to the AMG, and we are excited to partner with them to provide a fun new platform for aspiring artists.” — Rob Beckham, The Artist Management Group

About The AMG: Power agent Rob Beckham and veteran artist manager Bill Simmons teamed to form The AMG (Artist Management Group) in May of 2019. Previously, Beckham was co-head of WME, and Simmons has spent his career shepherding multi-platinum selling country singer Brad Paisley to super-stardom. The men’s vision was to create a full-service management company that offered the complete spectrum of services found in a larger firm while maintaining close client relationships and attention to detail of a boutique agency. Beckham and Simmons launched The AMG with Paisley and country star Chris Young as its flagship clients. Under the company’s wing, Young notched the most successful touring year of his career in 2019, and Paisley scored his first primetime TV special as well as a sweeping, sold-out European tour. In recent months, the management company has grown to include Big Machine Records’ buzzy new guitar slinger Payton Smith, North Carolina powerhouse Kameron Marlowe, country dynamo Alexis Wilkins, British trio Essex County and more.
About Essex County: Essex County, comprised of British brothers Nate, Mark and Kieran Bass, is one of country music’s most artful and nuanced groups.
The band, which released its debut single “So Good” in March, is defined by its rich family harmonies, multi-octave vocal ranges, and country and rock influences that are showcased in songs that swing from soulful and heartfelt to holler-and-swaller.
