FIREROSE Releases “New Day,” Featuring Billy Ray Cyrus
Australian singer/songwriter FIREROSE moved from Sydney to Los Angeles at age 19. She records her indie-pop gems at a legendary Los Angeles studio, The Village. She began performing regularly at The Viper Room, The Rainbow Room and SXSW, gaining an underground following of passionate fans demanding to hear more of her addictive original music.
Indie-pop. Australian music was greatly influenced in the 1950s and 1960s by American and British artists, from surf rock to the beat genre. Which artists from that era did you listen to growing up in Sydney?
The Beatles for sure were major musical influences and I danced to Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” at the Sydney Opera House in dance school as a young kid — loved Elvis. I was also super inspired by Tina Turner and Johnny Cash & June Carter.
Moving to Los Angeles at age 19. What was the deciding factor to move to the US?
I loved American music so much my whole life. I already felt a really strong calling to move here as a child, but my parents wouldn’t let me. As soon as I was legally old enough to, I did! I didn’t know anyone in LA, so it was a pretty huge leap…
