Flat River Band Celebrates Valentine’s Day with Two New Songs About Love

--

Brothers. Grew up in a multi-generational family band.

Your mother taught you how to harmonize while listening to the Gatlin Brothers’ “I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love.” Performed alongside your parents and grandparents at residencies at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri and at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Can you each share a special memory of playing with your family?

One time we were playing at Dollywood and I had a father and son approach the stage (the son was blind) and the father led his son to the front after the show and he said his son had to let me know that even though he can’t see with his eyes…he still believes. Referring to a song I wrote called “Just Believe” moments like that …just seem to stick with you! -Chad

When I was just a kid, our family band was on the road, performing a series of shows across Arkansas and Texas. I can vividly recall my dad behind the wheel of the bus, while my mom hopped off to check out a craft store or maybe a souvenir shop. Thinking she was still inside the bus in her room, my dad hit the road, and we inadvertently left her behind. Despite that little mishap, I wouldn’t trade those days spent traveling together for anything in the world. -Dennijo

When I first started playing the bass. I remember mom would pull up a chair so I could reach the fretboard on the old dog house bass …my fingers bleed many times! -Andy

Making a difference in the lives of fans, young and old, with your music. On the flip side, how have these fans changed your lives?

We like to call them our super fans. After our performances, they approach us not only to purchase merchandise but also to share their personal stories about how one of our songs has resonated with them. It’s incredibly rewarding and reminds us just how meaningful our music can be in people’s lives. Knowing that we have that kind of impact makes every effort worthwhile and inspires us to keep moving forward to the next show.

Nostalgic feel of songs like “God Bless the Radio,” which spotlights the memories of hearing a song on the radio for the first time. “All three of us are firm believers in the simple fact that all good gifts come from above. Our faith plays a big role in what we do. On stage and off! It’s a journey and we only have one life to live and on top of that no one is promised their next breath.” Music can help people process life events. Which artists’ songs have helped you each through difficult times?

Dad & Mom used to take us to the Salvation Army to help the homeless…being around that atmosphere all those years…I’m drawn to stories of redemption…no matter how low a person gets in their life…there is always hope…no matter what. With that said I always enjoy listening to a song written by Carl Jackson & Jim Rushing it’s called “Fit for a King” -Chad

It may seem a bit unconventional, but I truly believe that returning to our origins and listening to a traditional gospel hymn performed by a choir can be incredibly uplifting for the spirit. -Dennijo

I absolutely enjoy listening to CeCe Winans sing “The Goodness of God.” Her voice brings inspiration and the lyrics are a reminder of how blessed I am . -Andy

Last year, on Valentine’s Day, released “Home Sweet Home,” “In this song, we talk about traveling everywhere and no matter where we perform, we always feel like we’re at home. In the words immortalized by Helen Keller, ‘We find solace: the truest treasures, beyond sight or grasp, are those that stir the depths of our souls, felt only with the heart.’” How do you each make sure to find balance between your private lives and career demands like touring?

Having a supportive wife who wears multiple hats raising 4 boys with a bloodhound & 30 laying hens is not a walk in the park…I’m thankful everyday she loves me! -Chad

Navigating the challenges of kids, family, and touring can certainly be tough at times. However, being a close-knit family definitely makes it much more manageable. -Dennijo

This month you are releasing new music again for Valentine’s Day. “Old Fashioned Love,” written by Chad, “is a nostalgic ballad that celebrates timeless romance, blending heartfelt lyrics with the band’s signature harmonies. This track beautifully portrays the enduring power of love, making it the perfect anthem for Valentine’s Day.” If you were to make a playlist of love songs for Valentine’s Day, which song would top the list for each of you?

Angel Eyes — New Grass Revival -Dennijo

Deep River Woman — Alabama -Andy

Unchained Melody — The Righteous Brothers -Chad

“Love Run,” written by Buck Moore, Troy Seals and Nathan Belt, “offers a dynamic and emotionally charged narrative about chasing love and cherishing its transformative journey.” What does it mean to transform through love?

“Love Run” brings me back to my 16-year-old self, cruising down winding roads in the hills, chasing after a girl I thought I was in love with. In those exhilarating moments, nothing could stand in my way. -Dennijo
