Getting To Know SoCal’s Honey County

Rooted in three-part vocal harmonies, pop hooks, southern twang, and California cool, Honey County is a female country trio featuring founding member Dani Rose and bandmates Tracy Lambertucci and Sofie Lynn. The band was launched by Rose, a Virginia native who moved to Los Angeles during the early 2010s. There, she found herself gravitating toward the sounds, stories, and swagger of country music, a genre that had been so prevalent back home. Formed in 2014, Honey County has received praise from Rolling Stone; played gigs alongside Lady Antebellum and Old Dominion; enjoyed high-profile slots at CMA Fest and Stagecoach Festival.

Going from preparing to perform last week at Montana’s Country Nightclub to help raise money for those affected by the Nashville tornados — to all shows being canceled because of the spread of the coronavirus. How can artists continue to share their music and help others heal in these uncertain times? And how can fans help support artists?

We’re all heartbroken that our shows have been cancelled but we know that it’s important at this time to stay home. Playing online shows have been an amazing way to connect with people from all over the world!

We will have more planned for the coming weeks including a ticketed show using the service ‘Key Live’ where people can purchase tickets in advance to a private performance of us playing newer material as well as an exclusive listening party for our new single ‘Woke Up Tired’ set to release this summer.

We recently celebrated International Women’s Day. For each of you-Dani, Tracy, Sofie-which female artists have most influenced your music?

Sofie: Tori Kelly inspired me to learn how to do runs, and Carrie Underwood! I remember watching her win American Idol and telling my mom I wanted to be just like her.

Dani: Here’s some female artists that I’m listening to right now: Hayley Orrantia, Kalie Shorr, Brandi Carlile, Candi Carpenter, Mickey Guyton, Lindsay Ell.

Tracy: Mmm I loved Celine Dion growing up, these days I love Lari Basilio.

Spotify added “Love Someone” to their Fresh Finds: Country playlist. The playlist is made up of independent artists and labels. How does adding songs to playlists support indie artists?

As soon as ‘Love Someone’ was added to the Fresh Finds playlist we noticed an almost immediate increase in listeners and Spotify follows — the exposure play listing provides can be exponential and with each opportunity we’re given to be on a list we grow and expand our audience. It also gives us the idea that we’re on the right path.

“Women of Country” concert headliners for the fourth annual concert at the Rooftop Bar at the Fifth in Anaheim. The show was one of the first with Tracy and Sofie. For new and old fans alike, can you each share a little about yourselves and how you came to be a part of Honey County?

Tracy has played with us since 2017 as our sub and had always been a close friend of ours. After she played with us for one of our most memorable moments of 2019 (playing ‘Country Strong’ at Stagecoach with 150 line dancers and experiencing such an emotional and healing event) we really bonded together.

Sofie had been playing music as a solo artist when she reached out to set up a write with us. She literally slid in my DM’s haha, and after we met up to write Tracy and I knew she was going to be a great fit for the band.

Your Instagram post on National Pets Day with the question to guess what your next single will be … let’s see, a number of people guessed songs about dogs … Rex does have a starring role online … might be barking up the wrong tree, so what other hints can you share?

Our new song does not involve Rex, but Rex does do a lot of sleeping (hint hint).

Wearing animal prints. How do you choose outfits for shows?

We have an amazing costume designer- Miranda Nichols Persico. She takes days to put looks together for us, then comes over and has us try everything on- we snap photos and then keep an album of looks for every event. We’re really lucky to have her.

Will you accept this rose? Thoughts on the recent Bachelor season?

The Bachelor was a little disappointing if I’m being honest… I was hoping for the best for Peter but I guess that just wasn’t meant to be. — Sofie

Game night — “What Do You Meme”. Other games you recommend?

Cards Against Humanity & a good ol’ fashioned game of checkers.

Played The Hotel Café with Adam Hambrick earlier this year. Can you share up-and-coming SoCal artists we can add to our playlists?

Daniel Bonte, Rob Mayes, Tim Hurley, Melissa Farrior, Payton Howie, The Joy Reunion, Christie Huff.

2019 highlights … 2020 will be a year of new music & change. What’s ahead for Honey County?

New music!! And really focusing on continuing the momentum on our live performances (online and on the stage).

Saw, as of right now, you’ll be opening for Cole Swindell at the Orange County Fair on August 5th. What are your favorite foods and rides/attractions at the Fair?

My favorite thing to get at the fair is 100% funnel cake or Elote — Sofie

Fried pickles — Dani

Usually no food at the fair works for me because I’m vegan! — Tracy

Until then you have some online shows on Instagram Live this week including Honey County Kitchen. Can fans request recipes? What about a Chopped Honey County Kitchen Challenge?

Yes fans can absolutely request recipes or things for us to cook! We recently had one of our special guest chefs, Eric Higgins, come on to teach us how to cook Baja Style tacos. Next up, Tracy is going to be teaching us how to make a low calorie dessert — her special take on a Mug Cake, this Thursday at 5:30pm PT.

Honey County will be doing a live performance with KFROG on their IG Live on April 2 at 2pm PT.
