Jennifer Emard’s “Love Me”
Terrell, Texas native. 24 years as an artist, first with groups and now working on a solo project. Can you share what it was like the first time you performed on stage?
The first time I performed on stage with a live band was an absolute disaster. The band did a key change that I didn’t know how to follow, the rhythm and music was different, and I’m pretty sure I was singing in a different key as at least 2 of the band members. It was the most amazing feeling I ever had, so I told my parents that night that I was going to do this for the rest of my life.
I think it would be a blast to do a whole project of show tunes.
Mom to four daughters. You shared previously that they are not looking to pursue music careers. Have they inspired any of the songs you’ve written to date?
One of my first solo releases was written to them.
Raw, artsy writing style. “I envision the song like I’m watching a movie and try to tell the story using instrumentation and lyrics.” What has been the hardest song for you to write?
There isn’t one song that has been more difficult than the others. The most difficult part of the process probably comes after the song is written and making sure that it’s produced in a way that captures the vision. Fortunately, that has been easy because of the amazing people I use.
“Love Me.” What message do you hope fans take away from the song?
I think it’s such a unique and fabulous production. I hope people relate and enjoy it.
What’s ahead in ’23?
I already have new music ready to be released for this coming year. I have a lot of fun shows and venues that will be on the calendar soon and maybe some other new projects.
