Mexx Heart’s New Single “Deceptive Intentions,” Featured as the End-Credit Track for the Namesake Film, is Now Available Across All Platforms
Indie alt-pop artist Mexx Heart continues her rise with the release of her new single, “Deceptive Intentions.” Originally featured as the end-credit song in the Ripp Entertainment-directed film of the same name, the track marks Heart’s entry into the world of cinema, introducing her music to a new audience.
This latest release follows Heart’s breakthrough album Paper House, with its deeply emotive lyrics and production, which has amassed over 200,000 streams on Spotify.
How did you get involved with the movie?
I began working with Robert L. Parker in 2017 as an extra for his films. I let him know that I also do music. I sent him some of my material. I had multiple extra roles in this movie, one as a waitress, and one as an EMT. I’ve been working with him ever since. I could not be more grateful for the opportunities that he has given me.
Releasing the single, “Deceptive Intentions,” just in time for Halloween. What inspired you to write this song?
As I was working with Parker on the production, I got a glimpse of the synopsis and the plot line for the film, and offered to write the song for the end credits song.
The story of Vanessa is one that is all too familiar with many women who live in the Memphis area. While it can be powerful and uplifting, it can also be confusing and scary. That’s the inspiration and motivation I took to write “Deceptive Intentions” specifically for the movie.
What was it like the first time you heard the song playing at the end of the movie?
When I wrote “Deceptive Intentions,” I wanted to capture the moment when someone realizes they’ve been deceived and are forced to face harsh truths. It’s a deeply personal song for me, and, seeing it come to life in the film, was a surreal experience. It feels like everything I’ve been working toward is aligning.
