Missing the Storytellers on Country Radio? Listen to Scooter Brown Band’s Latest, “Country At All.”
After four years and three months, two tours overseas with one tour of combat in Iraq as a United States Marine, Scott Brown traded his guns in for guitars and hit the road. Scooter Brown Band was formed and began playing mainly in and around Houston, Texas. They have toured North America and opened for some of their biggest influences including Charlie Daniels Band, Travis Tritt, Dwight Yoakam, Lee Roy Parnell and The Marshall Tucker Band.
“There are plenty of signs out in the universe, just not many of them printed. Be aware and your path will open to endless possibilities, guidance & direction. Appreciate every moment.” Taking time, for your wife, your children, yourself. In what ways have you been able to stay focused this past year on what’s most important?
What this year has brought me is the realization of what is most important, the present. Of course I’m constantly planning & preparing for the future, be it business or family, but I’ve been so grateful this year to have spent so much time with my wife & kids. As much as I’d love to get back on the road, I wouldn’t trade it.
You are a co-founder of Base Camp 40 (BC40), a non-profit that, for the past ten years, takes veterans on hunting, fishing, and outdoor adventure trips. “How can we ever repay for the sun, the moon and the stars? For every breath in our lungs & cell in our bodies? You can’t write a check for it; you just be thankful and grateful for it.” What does it mean when you say ‘live free’?
To me, it means to live life 100% authentic to you. Live & let live. Don’t settle for ordinary or for what society expects. We get one shot at this miracle, make the best of it.

Well, who wouldn’t want their name on a bottle of whiskey?! Haha.
I’m a big believer that the hemp plant can change the world. Between its medicinal uses and its uses for everyday common goods, it’s a fast growing, renewable resource. I want to be a part of bringing it back, for good this time.
“Standing in “The Circle,” performing on the Grand Old Opry, waving Ol’ Glory…Nah, That Ain’t Country at All.” What inspired “Country At All,” the traditional outlaw country co-write with Tim Montana, where you call out today’s country for moving too far into the pop realm?
You know, I’m not a hater of pop country, I would just like to see country radio leave some room for traditional country as well. I’d like to hear more authenticity and not a formula & loops. I miss the storytellers. The stylists.
What did it mean to you when Randy Travis gave your new song his ‘seal of approval?’
I mean, does it get any better than that?! Randy Travis has been a musical hero of mine since I can remember.
It’s the same as when Charlie Daniels sang on our song, “American Son.” Pinch me moment, is this real life?!
