Street Theatre Company | Ordinary Days
The Street Theatre Company, a professional theatre company in Nashville known for producing innovative and modern fringe theatre, and is unique in that the majority of their shows are Nashville premieres, never having been done here ever before. STC loves to showcase works that not everyone is familiar with, but that also tell important stories.
They will open Ordinary Days this Friday (running through April 1). Set after the events of 9/11, Ordinary Days encapsulates the breadth & life of New York City in all its art forms; following the path of 4 New Yorkers as they search for fulfillment, acceptance, happiness and escapism.
Street Theatre Company was founded in 2005, and has since bounced around Nashville performing any any space that would have them — churches, warehouses, renting various theatre spaces — but has just entered into a long-term partnership with the Barbershop Theater (located in The Nations). After covid, so many professional theatre companies were struggling, having not produced shows in several years + the skyrocketing cost of rent in Nashville. Sadly, many theatres have not survived, and STC had to give up their former space. And for the past year, they really struggled to find a new affordable venue to produce shows.
The Barbershop Theater itself had also struggled + was listed for sale. Street Theatre Company approached another local playhouse — Verge Theater — who has also been a driving force in the theater community for years and similarly produces thought-provoking works. The idea was if they all joined together, it could lighten the financial load for everyone and allow them to continue. So together Street Theatre Company and Verge have created a partnership, entering into a long-term residency together at The Barbershop. While Street Theatre Company mainly does musicals, Verge produces straight plays.
Ordinary Days will be the first show they will produce in the new space. They will be doing Falsettos in June, and will be announcing their full 2023–2024 season in April.
