Rachel Holt’s “How Dare Me” — Raw Emotions and Empowerment

3 min readJun 3, 2025

A rising star in the Indiana country music scene. How has growing up in Indiana shaped you as an artist and influenced your music?

I love where I grew up and the amazing people that live here! I think that growing up in a small town has influenced my music and what I tend to write about usually.

The importance of family support in your musical journey. How has your family played a role in your music career?

My whole family is talented in music, so naturally they support me and help me achieve my goals!

What does ‘authentic’ country music mean to you, and how do you strive to achieve that in your own work?

I think that authenticity would be writing from the heart, and I’ll always love adding steel and fiddle to a good country song!

Signed a record deal in Nashville. How do you see the record deal impacting your music?

The record deal has helped tremendously and it’s very vital for trying to make it in Nashville! There’s so much going on in Nashville, and it is great to have such connections.

“I Was Gonna Be,” a pro-life song, gained attention and chart success last year. What was the inspiration behind this song, and what was your experience releasing a track with such a strong message?

My producer, Chris Wallin, wrote this song. He said that when he met me he knew I would be perfect for it! I am glad that I got to spread such an important message.

Releasing “People Where I’m From,” featuring Darryl Worley, “Crush,” and “Missin’ Home.” What can you tell us about the stories behind these songs?

“People Where I’m From” was a great song to put out with Daryl Worley and I’m thankful for that opportunity!

“Crush” was a song written by Chris Wallin, and I loved the message behind it.

“Missin’ Home” was my first song I ever wrote. I was 15 years old and just learning the guitar.

New music. “How Dare Me” captures raw emotions and the empowerment that comes from owning one’s own mistakes and coming out stronger. Filmed the song’s music video in Nashville. How did the filming go, other than getting launched face first off a horse?

Lol! The video was actually shot back home in Indiana. It was a fun shoot and I was in pain the whole time, because I got launched off of the horse on the FIRST shot, and they didn’t even get it on video, so it wasn’t even worth it, lol. But the video turned out great!!

What’s ahead?

We are working on a whole album and getting some more full band dates going and trying to get some dates opening for some big acts this year, so stay tuned!!
