Ryan Garrett is a Pop/Country artist from San Antonio, Texas. His new single, “1993”, was produced by Nick Autry (Carrie Underwood, Sam Hunt, Kane Brown). Garrett is currently finishing his debut record at Hollywood Studios.
Which San Antonio venues host the best live country music in and nearby your hometown?
My favorite venue in San Antonio has to be Floore’s Country Store. It’s such a historical venue where acts like Willie Nelson started. To be able to say I’ve performed on the same stage as some of the greats is awesome and inspiring.
“1993”. Top country songs that year included releases by Alan Jackson, John Michael Montgomery, George Strait, Tracy Lawrence, and Dwight Yoakam. Which 90s male artist has most influenced the music you create?
Man, there was so much good music back in the 90’s, those were the golden years of country music to me. If I had to choose, definitely Alan Jackson and George Strait. As a young kid I was so inspired when Alan Jackson or The King would come on the radio.
What drew you to Hollywood Studios to record your debut record?
I had been writing/doing session work over there for a while, so when we started making country music it just made sense to start recording there. It was the only studio I knew in San Antonio.
Man, it felt great. I hadn’t performed in months, even though it was to a much smaller and “socially distanced” crowd, it was a much-needed release.
Passing time until you can go back to touring. What are some positives you’ve experienced during the extended time at home?
I’ve probably written some of the best songs during this “lock down”. All of this down time has led to me being more creative than I ever have been. There’s nothing to do right now other than drink cold beer in the garage and write songs.
Playing Stagecouch in April. Which festivals are on your bucket list?
I would love to play STAGECOACH one day. The virtual festival was fun, but I’d love to perform the real thing in front of a real crowd.
