Sabrina Lentini’s Latest, “Everything But You”

“… being able to articulate these day-to-day little thoughts means so much to me. There’s something so special and healing about songwriting, especially when it’s a song like this where it flows so quickly and just falls into place, and when I’m not only writing the song because I need it but because I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. …”

Southern California native Sabrina Lentini is a singer/songwriter, a true lover of storytelling, and a believer in the magic of country music. Lentini has enchanted and captivated audiences with her unique take on the traditional country genre, and her latest releases have earned features on CMT and on Spotify’s editorial playlists. Her music has been described as “bright and playful and a true reflection of her personality,” bringing smiles to the faces of those who listen.

During her Sophomore year of high school, she was the youngest contestant to make it all the way to the Top 48 out of more than 75,000 for Season 13 of FOX’s American Idol. By working hard and playing thousands of shows throughout the years, she has turned her passion for songwriting and performing into her career. She is currently spending her time traveling between California, and Nashville, TN, working on her next release.

Tustin, Orange County. Singing since age five. Supportive parents and family. Growing up listening to country songs like Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing.” How has the music of the 90s shaped you as a storytelling songwriter since age 10?

I grew up listening to everything, and thanks to my family, I was introduced to a wide variety of music that has stayed with me to this day and inspired my own music. The storytelling of country music is what I’ve fallen in love with, and looking back, I remember the powerful connection I felt even when I was little. I have many memories singing and listening to songs like “A Broken Wing” or “Love Can Build A Bridge,” and the words and the melodies still make me emotional.

Playing the guitar. Piano, bass, drums on the ‘to learn’ list. Gibson SG. What are some tips you can share for artists looking for a new guitar?

I started really getting serious about playing guitar when I was around 12 years old, and it truly has made my passion for performing and songwriting even deeper. I wish I could put it into words! I just love playing instruments, and I’m always wanting to learn more. I think the most important advice I can think of for artists looking for a new guitar is to go with what feels right for them and has the sound they’re looking for. I’ve definitely tried out different guitars by closing my eyes and listening for the different tones and comparing how comfortable they feel.

“Everything But You” … “… being able to articulate these day-to-day little thoughts means so much to me. There’s something so special and healing about songwriting, especially when it’s a song like this where it flows so quickly and just falls into place, and when I’m not only writing the song because I need it but because I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. …” You shared that your latest single kicks off a new chapter of your music. From your first songs to your latest, what influences your music the most?

I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve in my music. In real life, that can be hard sometimes, but I find that whatever I’m feeling always find its way into a song in one way or another, and it’s really freeing. Songwriting is my way of working through these emotions not only for myself but also with the hopes of sharing them with someone else who may be feeling the same way. With “Everything But You,” the words just aligned in a way that I know they were meant to so that I could embrace these feelings of missing someone but also to let go and heal.

Taking time for yourself. Back on your fitness journey. Any suggestions for those of us who want to incorporate a healthier lifestyle that includes an exercise component but don’t know how to make it work?

This year is a big year for new chapters and transformation in my life. I can really feel it! After these last two years, I’ve learned more than anything that taking care of mental health is so important, and for me, I feel so much stronger and happier when I’m also focusing on my physical health too. I love going on walks, enjoying nature, exercising, and taking the time to grow. I am absolutely no expert in this, because I am learning more every day, but for anyone else who is looking to make those steps towards a healthier lifestyle, I would say starting a fitness journey with something small that makes you happy will help make positive changes that will eventually become a part of your daily life. Little changes can make the biggest difference.

Every day is an adventure. You asked fans — what’s something beautiful they’ve recently discovered — now your turn — what makes you smile?

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately starting my garden in the backyard and watching everything grow has really been so exciting! Also, spending time with my family, my friends, and my pets always makes me smile.
