SOFIE LYNN HONORS HER GRANDMOTHER’S 11 YEAR BATTLE WITH LUNG CANCER IN HER NEW SINGLE, PULLING STRINGS
Sofie Lynn says, “My Grandma was always encouraging me to chase my dreams. When I decided to pursue a career in nursing instead, she was crushed. In 2016, my Grandma lost her 11-year battle with lung cancer and it really brought music back into my life. All of my grief was channeled into songwriting. I like to think she’s looking down from Heaven smiling, because she knows I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”
Sofie is excited to be working alongside the American Cancer Society, fundraising for Lung Cancer Awareness Month through November, followed by the release of “Silent Night” on December 2, 2022 — the Christmas song her grandmother requested her to sing every year.
Sofie is thrilled for her fans to hear how her grandmother’s support still shines down on her today, and hopes they can relate to how little moments can make us feel close to our departed loved ones.
If you were to write an intro for “Pulling Strings” before it played on the radio, what would you want listeners to know about the song?
“Pulling Strings” is an ode to my grandma, my biggest champion on earth, and now in the sky.
6 Things You Don’t Know About Me:
Who is your hero?
My grandma, Nellie Ann Basone.
What is your proudest atypical accomplishment?
Going to the school Christmas party after getting 50 stitches in my face in 5th grade. Looking back now, I was such a brave little girl. I remember all the kids were scared of what I looked like because I was all stitched up after a sleepwalking accident, but all that mattered to me was celebrating Christmas with my friends. I strive to have that little girl’s confidence into adulthood.
What is your favorite family recipe?
My grandma passed down a polish recipe of cheesy potato pierogies and they are to die for.
If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?
I wouldn’t want to go back in time to change anything… but if I could just go back for like an hour or so, I’d sit down with my grandma before she passed in 2016 and have her tell me her whole life story so I could audio record it and listen to it now.
Is there anything you wish would come back into fashion?
Leg warmers!!!
What song would you say best sums you up?
“Who I Am” by Jessica Andrews… but I’d say “I am Nellie Ann’s Granddaughter, the spitting image of my mother, and when the day is done my Dad is still my biggest fan.”
