Robert, Gentry and Neil have been singing together in church for many years. With their voices together, they found a sound that was undeniable. Their name, The Joy Reunion, represents reuniting with the love of music after years of trying to make it individually in the music industry. They started writing songs, performing locally and began releasing their original music online. As a country trio they found success that they had only dreamt of on their own and quickly became a chosen family both in music and in life.

“Our band name, The Joy Reunion, came from being reunited with the joy of music when we found each other and our sound. We’ve each had our own musical journeys prior to this, and any artist knows the grind of trying to “make it” on your own in this industry can be defeating. It’s so easy to lose sight of why you’re doing it in the first place, but our union brought each of us back to the heart of why we make music, for the love of it.”

The Joy Reunion. Song writers, multi-instrumentalists, self-recording, engineering, self-producing. Bucket list goals for 2022?

Bucket list goals for 2022- more original music released, more performances, more collaborations! Our biggest bucket list goal for ’22 is to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. This venue is the ultimate right of passage and has been on our bucket list for as long as we’ve been playing music. In addition to this, our goal is to continue to release new music, as we have so many new songs, and so little time. We’ve invested heavily in new recording equipment so that we can continue to fine-tune our craft at our home recording studio.

Also, one of the best parts of being on NBC’s The Voice are the friendships that we’ve made with fellow contestants. We are really looking forward to doing some collaborative co-writes and releasing new music with our friends! Grand Ole Opry, we’re coming for ya!!

Playing a show at coach Blake Shelton’s Ole Red Tishomingo with fellow The Voice contestant Pete Mroz. What was your favorite take-away fan memory from the show?

First of all, Let us just say that Okies are some of the sweetest people on earth. We actually felt the need to apologize to anyone who’d ever flown into LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) knowing full well they did not receive the same warm welcome we received. Lol.

One specific fan moment from the show was during our song “Honey I Do.” We’d dedicated the song to the couple in the crowd who’d been married the longest. Turned out there was a sweet couple who had been married for 66 solid years (a veteran and his lady). We talked with them after the show and he gave us an envelope with some of his original songs. These sweet lovers had driven two hours to come hear us play. Definitely a highlight and honor for us.

New year. New music. Releasing “Let Her Run.” Can you share the back story to your new song?

The inspiration of this song came from a quote made famous by Richard Bach, “If you love something, let it go. . If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t they never were.”
