’TIS THE SEASON — NEW CHRISTMAS MUSIC FROM AARON WATSON & FAMILY
Aaron Watson’s Christmas album, An Aaron Watson Family Christmas, is a true family affair, with Watson’s wife, Kimberly, and their three children contributing vocals on 6 of the 10 songs. The album contains eight holiday favorites and two new tracks: “Lonely Lonestar Christmas” (written by Watson) and “She Stared at Him All Night” (written by Drew Womack).
What was it like working with family on your Christmas album?
It was an absolute joy, we had so much fun! I had kicked around making a Christmas record for 4 or 5 years but with my kids being 12, 11, and 9 it just felt like the perfect time to make it with them involved and they were so excited to be a part of dad’s new record. I’m so proud of how they all did.
How did you choose the songs for it?
It was a little different because on my regular albums I write my songs so it was just a process of some of my favorites, some classics, some not well known, what fit for Kimberly and the kids to sing on. An album is like a painting and it all has to go together when you are done so I wanted the album to truly that, an album.
What’s the backstory to your original song “Lonely Lonestar Christmas”?
I’ve probably been playing around with the idea for about 10 years now, I just loved the alliteration of the words and wrote it from there. While I loved recording Christmas classics, I also loved having a song that I wrote on here as well that is a new Christmas song. When I was writing it, I pretended I was writing it for Dean Martin, it just has that classic 1940s feel with a touch of Texas swing thrown in.
You describe the album as having “a Frank Sinatra on the farm kind of feel” — which Sinatra Christmas songs are your favorites?

Of course, he is!
What are some Watson family Christmas traditions?
Really just being home and around family. Shutting off the rest of the world and enjoying each other’s company and making memories. Building a fire. Having some Christmas music playing in the background. Playing card games around the kitchen table. Cooking together. Making those special moments as a family.
Best Christmas present you ever received?
Star Wars X Wing Fighter
What’s on your Christmas wish list this year?
Honestly, I have everything I could have ever wished for so it’s really about the kid’s Christmas wishes and them. I have what I want, time at home with my family.
Favorite thing about the Christmas holiday?
Being off the road from touring for an extended time, the kids home from school, and enjoying the spirit of the season all together.
