#WCW Women Crush It Wednesdays with singer/songwriters Melanie Meriney and Krista Angelucci
Singer/songwriters Melanie Meriney and Krista Angelucci host Women Crush It Wednesday, an online show, to spotlight music from female artists. Sitting in their living room, coffee mugs in hands, they share the couch with a different musician each week. The show is streamed on Facebook Live and Instagram Live at 7:30PM/CST.
What prompted you to start Women Crush It Wednesday?
We wanted to give a platform to female artists and writers pursuing their dreams. We know first-hand how tough the business can be and our goal is to encourage and recognize their talents and hard work!
Did the inspiration come from the Twitter hashtag #wcw?
Yes! We were trying to think of a name that would stick in people’s minds!
How do you choose guests for the weekly show?
Every week, we feature a new female artist, writer, or group. A lot of our guests are co-writers and friends, but we are also reaching outside the box to women we admire and think are awesome!
Love how real the shows are — can fans send in questions/song requests in advance, maybe on Mondays when you announce the week’s guest?
Yes! We’d love that — viewer interaction is huge and one of the main goals of the show! We want our artists to connect with fans and grow their reach. That’s why on most of our shows we try to connect fans and the artist with merch giveaways! We also want the show to serve as a vehicle for listeners to discover new artists and music, oftentimes before certain songs or projects are released! That way, the fans can get in on the ground floor and be a part of the process!
Might you do a ‘behind-the-scenes’ episode highlighting the steps you go through to write songs?
That’s a great idea! We’d love to dive in a little deeper for fans of the show and give people a taste of Nashville songwriting culture.
You’ve taken the show ‘on the road.’
One of our goals going into it was doing a combination of streamed and live shows. Since we’re based out of Nashville, and we’ve gotten to know the venue scene as artists, we think it would be fun to do little WCW takeovers around town… and then who knows… maybe someday on the road! What challenges have you faced and had to overcome as indie artists?
It’s definitely a challenge and a rollercoaster career choice. You have to love what you do and take the setbacks in stride. Just like any startup business, marketing, networking, and delivering an awesome product can prove difficult at times, but it comes down to persistence and passion for what you do.
What advice/motivation can you give to indie artists?
We hope our platform will evolve into something that will give a spotlight and help with growth for our featured artists. We’re all learning as we go and supporting each other. Our advice would be: be confident in yourself and know that you have the support of an awesome community that will be there to encourage and lift you up. Nobody else can do “you” better!
What would you recommend for artists trying to make Nashville connections?
Network, network, network! Get out, talk to people, go to shows, play shows, make friends… and play WCW!
