Where the Break Up Wasn’t a Bad Thing in the End — Lucas Hoge’s “Stay in Touch”
With equal ease and finesse, №1 Billboard-charting artist Lucas Hoge can craft a song, cast a line or call in a turkey in front of a film crew, and hold an audience’s attention on stage when performing. As a warm, engaging television host on his own weekly series “Hoge Wild,” Lucas takes viewers across the globe as he travels to amplify his passion for the outdoors and change the narrative around conservation.
My guitar is my passport. You have a stamp in that ‘passport’ from The Ryman, opening for George Jones, at your debut in 2011. Which song of his is your favorite to cover and why?
It was a dream to be able to open up for George at the Ryman and my favorite song of his to cover is “Revenooer Man.” Just a fun song to play.
Wrangler National Patriot Tour. Can you share some highlights from performing overseas for the military the past 12 years?
It is always an honor to perform for our troops and being able to be downrange with them is an incredible experience. Seeing what they go through day in and day out is amazing and being able to bring a little home over to them is a very special thing.
Hubbell, Nebraska, (in the southeast corner of Thayer County, population 65) native. “Sunday Sessions,” your weekly gospel show, has had more than 25 million views. What inspired you to start the show?
It was something that I decided to do about four years ago now when we were on the road so much and never home to be able to go to church. I decided to start doing these no matter where I was in the world every Sunday. I love that everyone is enjoying them as much as I am doing them!
What have you planned for the 2nd Annual Conservation AID LIVE Concert (on behalf of conservation efforts in the U.S.) at The Grand Ole Opry on February 16th?
I plan to continue to spread the message of conservation through my TV series Hoge Wild and play my music along the way.
Hoge Wild, your show on the Sportsman Channel. Having recently completed filming in San Antonio for the third season, what will you be exploring in Central and South America, along with South Africa, later this month, for your series?
While in South Africa we will be harvesting plains game animals and supplying food for the local villages, highlighting the rhino rescues and rehabilitation centers, having a concert for the Amy Bell Charities to raise money for their schools in Africa. While in Costa Rica we will be fishing and highlighting local flair and lots of other interesting elements of that area.
Releasing new music. “Stay In Touch” has a different spin on the aftermath of a breakup. What is the single’s backstory?
We wanted to craft a song where the break up wasn’t a bad thing in the end. You always hear bad break up songs and we wanted to do something a little different.
Cobra Kai. What do you love most about the martial arts comedy-drama series (a sequel to the original Karate Kid films)?
I loved the original Karate Kid movie and to see all the main characters today is just fun to me.
